Sound View Park – Bronx, NY – Bronx, NY (2009)

Posted in Environmental Services, Park Services

GBI worked with the USACE and the NYC DPR to create an extension of the existing Sound view Park by excavating a marsh from what was once a dump site full of construction debris. Once excavated, almost 30,000 CY of clean sand was added to the marsh area and GBI planted well over 50,000 plant plugs and shrubs that represented a variety of native species. An upland area was in the park was covered with sand and mulch and then seeded and planted to create a large meadow area that looks out at the marsh area and the Bronx River. The overall effect was to create a natural refuge in the Bronx where wildlife, and the community that now gets to enjoy it, can thrive.
