Randall's Island Salt Marsh Restoration
As part of the vital environmental mitigation efforts for the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) renewable energy transmission infrastructure, Galvin Bros., Inc. successfully completed a comprehensive, multi-phase salt marsh habitat creation and shoreline restoration project along the northern shore of Randall’s Island. To revitalize the tidal ecosystem and shield the Bronx Kill shoreline from persistent tidal erosion, the completed scope of work covered large-scale mechanical soil decompaction, selective site re-contouring, and the installation of low rock sills and protective riprap enhancements. Our team established thousands of new native saltmarsh cordgrass plugs, supratidal grasses, and trees to deliver a thriving coastal ecosystem. Throughout construction, strict protective measures were utilized, including composite heavy-equipment marsh protection mats, turbidity curtains, and dedicated herbivory exclusion fencing, ensuring maximum ecological preservation and long-term planting stability.
